Kerala recorded 3,021 new COVID-19 cases on Monday after testing 33,508 samples. Two people who returned from the United Kingdom recently are among the new cases.
The state also recorded 5,145 recoveries on the day.
With latest infections, number of UK returnees tested positive for COVID-19 rose to 39 in the state. Their samples have been sent to the National Institute of Virology in Pune for further tests.
The test positivity rate is at 9.02 in the state currently.
Of the new cases, 2,643 had contracted the virus through contact while 52 had come from outside the state. Among the contact cases, the source of infection of 284 is yet to be traced.
With this, the number of active cases in the state reached 63,135.
The state has reported 7,78,873 COVID-19 infections so far. Of this, 7,12,389 made recovery.
Forty-two health workers too contracted the virus on the day. They include 12 from Kannur, 10 from Thiruvananthapuram, 6 from Ernakulam. 3 each from Thrissur and Kozhikode, 2 each from Kollam and Pathanamthitta, 1 each from Kottayam, Palakkad, Malappuram and Wayanad.
19 more COVID deaths
Ninenteen COVID deaths too were confirmed. With this, COVID death toll rises to 3,160.
Though more deaths were reported, the state is yet to ascertain them as COVID deaths. Tests are underway at the National Institute of Virology in Alappuzha.

Testing and Quarantine
Till Monday, 80,99,621 samples (including routine, airport surveillance, pooled sentinel, CBNAAT, TrueNAT, CLIA and antigen assay) were sent for testing.
A total of 2,32,135 people are under observation across the state. Of them, 2,20,699 are under home or institutional quarantine while 11,436 are in hospital. A total of 1,277 people were admitted in hospitals on Monday.
One region has been designated as hotspot while two were removed from the list. The total number of hotspots is at 447 in the state now.
