Palakkad: In a shocking incident, a mother has been taken into custody by the police for allegedly killing her own son as a sacrifice to God. The crime took place around 4am on Sunday at Poolakkad in Puthuppally Street, near Palakkad town in Kerala.
According to the district police chief, the woman Shahida herself had informed the police that she had slit the throat of her six-year-old son Adil. The child’s legs were tied together before he was killed in a washroom of the house. The boy was reportedly sleeping when Shahida carried out the dastardly act.
Adil was the youngest of the three sons of Shahida and her husband Sulaiman, a taxi driver. Neither Sulaiman nor the other children were aware of the murder as they were sleeping in another room of the house. Incidentally, Shahida is carrying again.
Shahida had worked as a teacher at a ‘madrassa’ for several years. On Saturday, she had collected the phone number of the Janamaithri Police from a neighbouring house and later told officers from the South Police Station, Palakkad that the act was meant to please God.
Neighbours said they did not know if the woman was suffering from any problem.
