Palakkad: Two cops were found dead near Muttikulangara police camp on Thursday.

The bodies of havildars Mohandas and Ashokan were found in a field near the police camp. They had gone missing a day earlier.

The bodies were found in two different spots of the field. Electrocution was suspected to be the cause of death as burn marks were reported to be found on the bodies.

Since the chances of electrocution are less at the site of discovery, police are also looking at other possibilities.

It was suspected that they might have entered the field for fishing, local sources said. The possibility of being ensnared in the traps meant for wild boars will also be examined.

District police chief R Viswanath evaluated the situation. The exact cause of death could be ascertained only after a detailed forensic examination and post-mortem, the SP said.

The autopsy will be conducted on Thursday evening or Friday morning after the inquest proceedings.

Officials from Hemambika Nagar Police Station, Palakkad have examined the site.
