Dazzle in hand painted gowns

Gowns

Hand painted patterns and designs which once adorned elegant sarees have now made its way to chic gowns as well. The traditional six yard, hand painted with exquisite mural and Egyptian designs have always been a favourite choice for women to wear during special occasions and festivals.

“Gowns have now become youngsters’ favorite party wear. So I decided to merge the two styles. Images of beautiful peacock feathers were hand painted onto a gorgeous gown made in raw silk. Besides gowns, bags made with juko fabric too are hand painted.

Customers specifically ask for bags and clutches painted in mural, Egyptian designs, elaborate floral patterns and traditional Theyyam designs,” says Subitha Rani who runs the Sarang Boutique in Edapally.

Thiruvananthapuram native Neethu Krishna, a well known designer, who hand paints beautiful images on traditional attires like sarees and kurti, reveals that she too tries out various hand painted patterns on gowns. She says, “I painted on gown as I wanted to try something different. Usually patterns are not hand painted on gowns. I decided to design a gown with the peacock theme. The gown was stitched with a shimmery net fabric, and images of peacocks were hand painted onto it. Real peacock feathers are attached as additional accessories on the gown.”
