If you have acne, try eating grapes or drink a glass of red wine.
Research shows that a compound, resveratrol, found in the skin of grapes and in red wine can be used effectively in the treatment of acne. Scientists at the University of California, Los Angeles, found that when the antioxidant compound was combined with the common acne medication benzoyl peroxide, the drug's ability to kill acne by inhibiting the growth of zit-causing bacteria was enhanced.
While benxoyl peroxide is an oxidant that creates free radicals that kill acne bacteria, resveratrol works by halting the formation of free radicals, which cause cell and tissue damage. "It was like combining the best of both worlds and off ering a two-pronged attack on the bacteria," said senior author Dr Jenny Kim.
