Hope 'HGF' series draws more to reading: Bhagat

Chetan Bhagat's 'Half Girlfriend' hit the newsstands with the November 1 issue of the Malayala Manorama Weekly.

Kottayam: A day after the first translated series of his latest book 'Half Girlfriend' hit the newsstands with the November 1 issue of 'Malayala Manroama Weekly', an excited Chetan Bhagat on Friday hoped that the initiative would draw more people towards books and reading.

This is the first time his book is getting translated and serialised in any regional language, responding to it Chetan Bhagat said: "To do it (running a translated series) for the first time in India's most literate state is very exciting. I expect readers to enjoy and look forward to the weekly dose of Half Girlfriend."

The book tells the story of a boy from Bihar (Madhav) and a rich and fashionable girl (Riya). Malayala Manroama Weekly launched the story in Malayalam on October 23, 2014.

In an earlier interview with Malayala Manorama, the Five Point Someone, fame said that he is thinking of the making Kerala the background for his next book.

Born in a middle-class family in west Delhi, Bhagat initially trudged the usual path taken by India’s youth - to becoming an engineer. This mechanical engineering graduate from Delhi IIT and MBA from IIM-Ahmedabad, worked for 11 years in a bank before taking up a career as a full-time writer.

Chetan Bhagat's books are known to have broken sales records. He has published five books till date and all of them have made their presence on the silver screens as well. His books cater to the youth whose lives revolve around the cyber culture and smartphones.
