Simple, elegant and very modern. That’s Sajida’s 2,800 sqft white, box-shaped house on eight cents of land in Kozhikode. The design was conceived, developed and executed by architects of Kozhikode-based firm Concern Architectural Consultancy. Interestingly, Sajida happens to be their colleague at the firm.
The biggest hurdle before the designers was the loose nature of the soil. When one side stood elevated, the other was much below its level. But all the obstacles were overcome.
The designers went in for flat roofs in place of sloped ones in a bid to cut cost. The designers went in for flat roofs in place of sloped ones in a bid to cut cost. A box structure was preferred to maximize space utilization. The 'padippura', also constructed like a square box, matches with the main design and is made to look like an extension of the elevation. What gives the structure its striking looks are the natural stone and brick stone claddings.
