The biggest dream of every expatriate might be to build a house of his or her own. Though many wish to visit the construction site to oversee the works, they often wouldn’t get leaves during those days. However, Alex Antony has a different story to tell. Alex wasn’t worried at all about the various stages of the construction as he shared a great rapport with the architect who designed his dream dwelling. His brand new house now stands on a 20 cents plot adjacent to his ancestral home in Thannermukkom, Alappuzha, Kerala.
Alex was impressed by architect Shinto’s works that were featured in Manorama Online, and had contacted him. He wasn’t here when the construction works of his house were progressing. “I just came down, once, when the construction had begun. After that, I saw my completed house only on the day of house warming ceremony. We communicated and shared our ideas through WhattsApp and also through video calls,” says Alex.
The family had demanded that the house should have three bedrooms and a modern kitchen with an adjacent work area. Besides, they wanted the interiors to be designed uniquely to make maintenance easier. There are main roads on two sides of the house. So the elevation has been designed to make the view of the house possible from three sides. Shingles are paved on the truss work done over the roof. Gray cladding tiles and wooden texture paint make the exteriors incredibly attractive.
The elegant house, in 2450 sq ft, has a car porch, sit-out, formal and family living areas, dining space, two bedrooms and a modular kitchen with an adjacent work area in the lower storey and a living area and an additional bedroom in the upper floor.
The interiors are designed in the minimal theme, without over crowding the spaces with too many decor and furniture. Vitrified tiles are paved on the floor in the common areas. Meanwhile, granite is used in the sit-out.
A wall in the living area has been highlighted using paneling in plywood – laminate finish. False ceiling too has been installed here, which gives a charming elegance to the space. The handrails of the stairway have been built by alternatively arranging GI tube and wood.
The windows in all the bedrooms open to the beautiful lush greenery outside. Full length wardrobes are arranged for storage. The bedrooms are bath-attached as well. The furnishing of the kitchen has been done in multi wood – laminate finish.
Alex Antony says that their great confidence in the designer had paid off, as Shinto has built an incredibly beautiful abode for the family. Alex confesses, on a lighter note, that he felt his brand new house looked way too beautiful, when he saw it for the first time on the day of the house warming ceremony.
