Hop off before this Thrissur house for a stroll in the park
Long-time expatriate Jayaprakash and his wife Girija live at Ettumana near Cherpu.

Cherpu: A sprawling garden before a house here in Kerala’s Thrissur district is a favourite picnic spot for school students! Anyone visiting the house for the first time would take over an hour to cover a mere 20 ft extending from the gate to the house as many interesting sights would hold your attention. You would need to walk right through the garden, past the fountain, swing, sliding rides, old farming equipment, various types of bird cages and trees to reach the house located at Ettumana near Cherpu.

Long-time expatriate Jayaprakash and his wife Girija live here.

Jayaprakash had returned home 20 years ago after quitting his job with the Qatar government. Most of the objects you see around the house were made by Jayaprakash on his own. Girija, a retired teacher, fully backs his endeavours.

Several of the objects in the garden have been made with objects we would generally throw of after use. They include PVC pipes, tyres, bottles, defunct radio and washing machine.

An organic farm and fish breeding zone are also on the plot.

The garden has been named RK Gardens, in memory of Jayaprakash' father Ramakrishnan.

The couple's children are Arun, assistant professor at SN Medical college at Manjali, and Dipin, who works at the Infopark.
