This dream home in Kottakal is a cradle in the lap of nature

The splendid cottage, designed in 3143 sq ft area, has a car porch, sit-out, living and dining spaces, courtyard, three bedrooms, kitchen, upper living area and an open terrace.

‘Soha’ at Kottakal in Malappuram is not just a house built of bricks and mortar but a beautiful dream that blends with the stunning nature. This enchanting abode owned by Dr Sunil and Dr Jisha opens up a vast arena where life joins hands with the mesmerizing nature. The house is exotic and is designed aesthetically. The family is extremely proud that their hard work to build their dream dwelling has finally paid off.

The exterior walls built using laterite stones aren’t plastered and emanates the rustic charm of exposed style. Meanwhile, lime plastering is done on the interior walls. Clay tiles are paved on the GI truss roof. This effectively prevents the hot sunrays from entering the house and maintains a comfortable temperature in the interiors. This house dons unique looks on each side, creating a magical visual spectacle.

The splendid cottage, designed in 3143 sq ft area, has a car porch, sit-out, living and dining spaces, courtyard, three bedrooms, kitchen, upper living area and an open terrace. Just as organs of a human body function in unison for the general health, the vital features in this unique house have specific purposes. While the corridors act as veins to connect the spaces, the cooling water courtyards function as lifeline of the spectacular abode.

Besides the main gate, there is a traditional padipura as well. The design of the car porch built using bamboo and steel is quite magnificent. A mini courtyard is what connects the porch and the padipura. The alluring courtyard which looks like a small pond is the highlight of this house. The rains and the golden sunshine are regular visitors in this house. There is a patio space closer to the dining hall. This too opens to another mini courtyard. The roof here is secured with GI shutters.

The house reflects the elegant charm of the ethnic style which grabs the attention. Each area in this house is designed uniquely. For instance, some parts of the house feature classy wooden pillars and colourful window panes and doors, purchased from Vadakara which is known for antique furnishing items. Meanwhile, the traditional Chettinad furnishing materials are brought from Athamkudi. The ceiling of the ground floor isn’t plastered and features a rustic cement finish.

The frosted glass windows and the bay windows in the bedrooms bring a slice of beautiful nature into the rooms. The old timber which was used to make the cots in the bedrooms was purchased from Kariakudi. The influences of the exotic Arabian style could be seen here. The exquisite Morocco lights imported from Saudi Arabia creates a dreamy ambience inside the house. Besides, unique and rare curios and artifacts bought by the couple during their journeys too are exhibited at various spots in the house.

The family says their relatives and friends often visit them just to enjoy their amazing house that is in perfect sync with the nature. They are delighted that their guests too are inspired by the smell of green in their dream dwelling.
