Simplicity makes this minimalist house in TVPM an epitome of wise designing

Thirumala house
The contemporary house in Thirumala overcame the lockdown blues to get completed.

Gopikrishnan, an IT professional and his wife Meera, a bank employee are proud to show around their brand new house that stands in a 6 cents plot in Thirumala, Thiruvananthapuram. The elevation of this beautiful abode exudes the mesmerizing charm of contemporary architecture. The red sandstone cladding on the outer walls is what makes the elevation shine. Meanwhile, the balcony has been designed as a comfortable spot where the family could enjoy some fabulous moments. This balcony too plays a vital role in granting a spectacular look to the elevation.

The interiors, designed based on the minimalist theme, boats of a soothing ambience. Moreover, the family didn’t wish to show off by adding gaudy and unwanted décor, just for the sake of it. False ceiling, bright lighting that cause discomfort to the eyes and designer cladding aren’t part of this simple house. So, the splendid elegance of the interiors could be enjoyed in all its true beauty.

The classic colour combination of grey and white dominates the interiors. Meanwhile, grey coloured vitrified tiles have been paved on the floor. A few pieces of furniture are custom made to suit the theme of the house. Besides, old furniture too has been reused here.

The openings in the house have been smartly designed to grab a view of the charming greenery outside. There is a window at the first landing of the staircase that opens to the lush landscape. Meanwhile, a vertical garden has been arranged, adjacent to the dining area so that its beauty could be enjoyed through a window here.

Designed in 2300 sqft, this contemporary abode has a car porch, sit out, living and dining areas, kitchen and two bedrooms in the ground floor. Meanwhile, there are two more bedrooms, upper living area, balcony and terrace in the upper floor.

The bedrooms are simple and have attached bathrooms and wardrobes for storage. A library and a study area have been additionally set up in a bedroom.

The kitchen cabinets are done in plywood with laminate finish. The counter top has been paved with granite. Meanwhile, granite has been pasted on the backsplash, to grant a clean look to the kitchen.

The house was mostly constructed during the lockdown period. The family says that they had to overcome many challenges due to this. However, they are happy and proud that they got a simple and calm abode, just as they had wished, amid a buzzing city.
