This splendid colonial mansion is the new spectacle for Nilambur town

Nilambur house
The grand elegance of the colonial architecture is the highlight of the elevation.

Nishadh who works in the IT field in Bengaluru was heartbroken when his house in Nilambur got inundated during the megafloods in 2018. Since, then he has been looking for a plot where flood waters wouldn’t enter. Finally, he purchased a perfect 10 cents plot in Nilambur where his brand new house stands.

The construction had begun just before the lockdown was announced. He says that the work-from-home facility turned out to be a blessing as he could personally oversee the construction. Besides, he credits the amazing team of workers who managed to continue the work despite all the difficulties.

The family wanted their dream abode to stand out and didn’t wish to follow a regular pattern. The grand elegance of the colonial architecture style is the highlight of the elevation. The three-tiered roof looks majestic as it adds ample height to the elevation. The roof in the centre, which is the tallest, has GI truss installation. The other two roofs too are designed like this. Groove designs were made on the outer walls when they were plastered. These were then painted in attractive hues to turn it into a cladding pattern.

The house has a car porch, sit out, formal and family living areas, dining space, kitchen with an adjacent work area, four bedrooms and an upper living area, designed in 2900 sqft.

The opulence of Italian marble flooring grants a mesmerizing ambience to the ground floor. Meanwhile, vitrified tiles have been paved on the floor in the upper floor. Interestingly, wooden finish tiles are used in the kitchen and the bedrooms. The furnishing works done in plywood with a laminate finish is simple yet elegant. The furniture pieces are custom-made to suit the unique theme of the interiors.

Besides the main entrance door, there is another door that connects the car porch and the family living area. Interestingly, there is a quaint side courtyard and a hanging cot close to this door. The double-height window here ensures that oodles of bright sunlight enter the house illuminating the interiors with golden rays.

The staircase has steps paved with Mahogany planks on a sturdy steel structure. Meanwhile, the SS hand railings add panache to the staircase.

The dining area is in the spacious central hall. The dining table in classic wood and glass combination is stylish.

The area close to the pantry kitchen is quite interesting. There is a skylight courtyard here to fill the interiors with pleasant sunshine. The wall on one side has been designed in jali block and coloured glass, making it a spectacular piece of artwork. Besides, an artificial fountain too has been arranged here to add a graceful ambience. The artificial grass and the Moroccan tiled flooring lends glamour to this area.

Meanwhile, the kitchen cupboards are done in WPC boards with PU paint finish. The counter top has been paved with Korean stone.

Two bedrooms each have been arranged in both the floors. Unique themes and state-of-the-art designs make the bedrooms stand out. The master bedroom on the upper floor has an adjacent balcony from where the beautiful view could be enjoyed.

The mezzanine floor, built in the kids’ bedroom, taking advantage of the high ceiling, is an interesting feature. This area has been turned into a library and study area.

The family moved into the house in March this year after celebrating the housewarming ritual in the company of their friends and relatives.
