Christy Sijo

Changanassery: Christy Sijo has a roof over his head, thanks to his schoolmates. The four-year-old upper kindergarten student at the Mary Rani School became a symbol of the goodwill generated by the ‘Nalla Padhom’ project when students took the initiative to build a house for the child.

The students who realized that little Christy did not have a home to call his own have been working on a fund raising mission from the end of the previous academic year.

As soon as the students raised enough money, the work on the house was started. A two-bedroom house was ready within three months. The house cost Rs 9 lakh. The management of the school also pitched in.

The students now want to help out their other homeless friends.

Christy’s parents received the key to the new house from Changanassery diocese auxiliary bishop Mar Thomas Tharayil and provincial superior Sister Mercy Nedumpuram. School principal Sister Emily Thekketheruvil, Fr Tom Kunnumpuram, Sr Sicily Vettiyankal, Tintumol Jose and Nalla Padhom coordinator Lalimma Thomas were also present on the occasion.
