biopen

Attingal: The seemingly innocuous plastic pens and straws are among the most active pollutants. In a bid to rid nature of this menace, the National Service Scheme unit of Government Model Boys School here has come up with a bio-pen.

Actor Sudheer Karamana, a teacher and brand ambassador of the bio-pen, launched it at a function at the school recently.

Except for the refill, the whole of the pen is bio-degradable and non-polluting. The body of the pen is made of paper. The best thing is that the pen encases a pea seed in it, making it truly 'bio.' A used pen can be thrown out after removing the refill and the seed would grow into a plant.

The pens are being used in the school and was widely distributed to other schools on World Environment Day (June 5). The response to bio-pens were excellent and it was hence decided to market it with a brand ambassador, school sources said.
