The world gave a shot at healthy lifestyle with yoga on Wednesday. The International Yoga Day was marked with several programs around the world.

Back in India, prime minister Narendra Modi and Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath joined half a lakh people in a yoga session in Lucknow. The Ramabai Ambedkar Sabha Sthal has been the venue of yoga practice sessions for a month in the run-up to the big day.

Adityanath and governor Ram Naik had visited the venue to personally monitor the arrangements on Tuesday.

NDA’s presidential candidate Ram Nath Kovind participated in the programs organized at the Connaught Place in New Delhi.

The Yoga Day will be celebrated across the country under the aegis of state governments, organizations and schools.

Swami Chidanand Saraswati and Sadhvi Bhagavathi Saraswati from India and Swami Sivadasananda from Australia will lead the yoga sessions at the United Nations headquarters in New York. The United Nations announced the first Yoga Day on June 21,2014.

Yoga in China The yoga session on top of the Great Wall of China

Yoga is going places. A yoga session on top of the Great Wall of China on Tuesday became a historical event. Indian external affairs minister V K Singh participated in the session organized by the Indian embassy in association with the People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries and Yogi Yoga Padhasala.

Participants hailed the event as a milestone in bilateral ties. Singh was on his way back to India after attending a meeting of external affairs ministers from the BRICS countries.
