tailors

The rhythmic knocking of needles fills the air at this tailoring shop near Mulekunu Junction, South Pambady. This rhythm has become the music for two determined tailors, to whom, the world of sounds and music is alien.

When hearing and speech impaired couple Roji (33) and Jeena (25) decided to open the shop six months ago, it was their friends and family who motivated and stood with them.

But now they have a bunch of loyal customers who not only admire Roji and Jeena’s sewing skills, but also their determination and hard work. During school reopening season when there is a huge demand for tailored uniforms Roji and Jeena even gave up rest; and would work all through the night.

Roji completed plus two from a special school at Thiruvalla; and is particularly good in sewing holy vestments. Jeena who hails from Eenath came into his life two years ago. She too was trained in sewing after plus two.

Roji and Jeena communicate with their customers in sign language or hand gestures. Their customers know very well that measurements wouldn’t go wrong in the hands of this talented couple; and this is evident from the smile of satisfaction on their faces as they try out the perfectly fit clothes.
