But what if you get that through a stranger, quite unexpectedly? The agony of losing will be replaced by the ecstasy of finding, even if it’s after several years.
Koodiyattom artist Kalamandalam Eeswaran Unni recently had such an experience. Four years ago, Eeswaran Unni’s son had lost his gold locket. It was in the shape of a banyan leaf and had an embossed image of Lord Krishna as a toe-sucking infant.
Although the artist’s family rummaged around their house for the locket, it was of no use. But a week ago, he got it back from a stranger named Muhammed Mustafa, who visited him for the sole purpose of returning the locket. Yes, the locket was returning to the artist’s house after its long exile.
Mustafa chanced upon the locket when he was removing the upholstery of a sofa he had purchased from a second-hand shop. As soon as he got it, Mustafa went back to the shop and enquired the storekeeper about the sofa’s previous owner. Once he got the address of Eeswaran Unni’s house in Cheruthuruthy, he visited him at once and returned the locket.
Apparently, Eswaran Unni was quite surprised to get back the locket he had lost years ago. The artist, who was visibly pleased with Mustafa’s honesty, recited a few Koodiyattom verses in his honor. As for Mustafa, meeting an artist like Eeswaran Unni itself was a reason to cheer. “I’m happy that I could bring Lord Krishna back to His true abode,” he said.
