Thiruvananthapuram: The Lakshmibai National College for Physical Education at Kariavattom just witnessed the birth of a Guinness World Record. Hundreds of differently abled children joined hands to form a massive Santa Clause cap on the college ground.
The display was formed as part of the Special School Olympics, attended by around 15,000 children from across Kerala along with around 6,000 special school staff. As many as 520 children in red and white came together to form the giant cap, while thousands of others fringed the ground.
The effort gained them an entry into the Guinness Book of World Records, after a failed initial attempt involving 5,000 children.
Many of the children were just too happy to have been able to wear a Santa costume. They cheered the fellow Santas in excitement and waved their hands at the drone camera flying over their head to record their achievement.
It took the children and their teachers an hour to get the cap in perfect shape. Every child was given a distinct bar code. They were let into the ground through 10 special scanners to keep a count. The record was announced during the inauguration of the Special School Olympics.
