New orchid species found in Wayanad
Liparis tschangii

A new species of orchid has been found in the hilly tracts of Western Ghats in north Kerala. The orchid species found in Wayanad ranges is known as Liparis tschangii in botanical nomenclature. Researchers say that the plant used to grow exclusively in countries like China, Vietnam and so on.

The plant was spotted by PM Salim, Jayesh P Joseph, M Jithin and V Balakrishnan of MS Swaminathan Research Foundation; Jose Mathew of SD college in Alappuzha and former South Wayanad DFO P Dhanesh Kumar

The study report on the plant has been published in the science journal Indian Forester.
