Thought for the day: Actions vs prayers

There was a man who wished to become rich, and he would visit the church everyday to pray to God to grant his wish to become a rich man. He would kneel down, fold his hands, and pray – to make him the winner of lottery.

Though he visited the shrine for a week, his prayers were not answered. So the man improved the way of prayer. He said to God, "Lord, I gave up alcohol; I promise I will not bother anyone else. I will become an honest person. Just grant me an opportunity to make myself rich." It was then the God appeared before him and said, "Son, you give me an opportunity to do my job. To make you the winner of lottery, you should at least go and purchase a ticket."

This snippet clearly elucidates the importance of hard work and perseverance in achieving success. Those who earn their daily bread through hard work clearly realize the value of their efforts and savings. Whatever one earns through undeserving means would be lost. There aren't any short cuts for success other than hard work and perseverance.

Your prayers shouldn't be a demand for material riches; instead it could be an invocation to grant you the strength to accept your present and or even survive it. When your prayers and deeds are limited to make your wishes come true, your duties and responsibilities tend to take a back foot.

If your deeds are honourable then you can offer prayers with an honest and contented soul. More than the frequent visits to shrines or places or worships, the honesty in your deeds, clarity of thoughts, and a patient demeanour is essential to lead a happy life.

It truly is an act of disregard towards the almighty when one prays for miracles without actually doing the duties.
