Youth from Alappuzha to rush headlong into Guinness record
Midhun arranged a 30-minute event at a hotel in the town under the instructions of the Guinness authorities for the record.

Young Midhun Raj from Alappuzha aimed at finding a place in the Guinness Book of World Records by hanging upside down, literally. He attempted it by solving the Rubik’s cube puzzle in this position. He tried to solve the puzzle 51 times in 26.1 minutes to break the current record of 26 times held by a Tamil Nadu native.

Midhun arranged a 30-minute event at a hotel in the town under the instructions of the Guinness authorities for the record. However, as he was furiously solving the cube, it suddenly slipped from his hand at the last moment. The lapse at the end was unfortunate, but the encouragement and praise Midhun received from spectators for his effort boosted the youngster’s spirits.

A BA English first year student, Midhun is the son of A R Rajeev and Bobby. Rajeev is a graphic designer in Thailand.

The youngster had spent the last three years practicing 30 minutes a day for attempting the Guinness record. He collected information for the purpose from the Internet.

Bengaluru native K Pruthyush, the observer of the Guinness Book of World Records, created an image of a Kathakali performer at the venue, which attracted much attention. Other witnesses of Midhun’s effort were C Daniel, representative of World Cube Association and B Arun, a gazetted officer.

The Guinness authorities will now examine the videos and photos of Midhun’s attempt and announce the results after three months.
