Facebook and Whatsapp seem to be in a rather frenzied ‘No Shave November' mood. ‘Beardilicious’ or the fully grown beard blessed photos of favorite stars are doing the rounds on social media. We did a background check to find out what all this sudden 'hulabaloo' regarding facial hair is about. So what exactly is the ‘No Shave November' campaign?
The goal of 'No-Shave November' is to grow awareness by embracing our hair, which many cancer patients lose, and letting it grow wild and free. The idea is to donate the money that we typically spend on shaving and grooming to educate the people about cancer prevention, saving lives, and helping those fighting the battle.
Refusing to shave this whole month and saving up on that expense takes absolutely no effort and hard work from our side, so why not give it a go! Some compassion for those suffering from the deadly disease is all it will take and this is what kick-started the campaign in the first place.
Anybody wishing to support the cause can participate in the movement. All you need to do is to keep aside the money that you would otherwise give to a hair salon for shaving or trimming.
The organizations behind this unique campaign are the American Cancer Society, Prevent Cancer Foundation and Fight Colo-rectal Cancer. The campaign which began on November 1, 2009 is in its seventh year now. What started with just 50 members is now a gigantic forum, thanks to the power of social media. Today, there are thousands of supporters from every nook and corner of the world pledging solidarity with this movement without shaving in November, all for the benefit of cancer patients.
The first step to participate in this campaign is to register your name on the website www.no-shave.org. On November 30, you need to take a picture of yourself to send to the group. The campaign officially ends December 1 and then you are free to do what you please with your look!
