Selfies have truly become a trend that knows no race, age, gender or social status. But some people seem to have taken the selfie photo fad to an extremely new level - a level that is too risky and deadly.

In one such unfortunate incident, a Romanian teenager has burst into flames when she unexpectedly touched a live wire while trying to take a photograph of herself on top of a train's roof.

Anna Ursu, 18, and a friend went to a train station in the town of Iasi in the north-east of Romania to take a ‘special selfie’ to post on Facebook.

But while trying to strike a pose, she erupted into a ball of fire as an electrical field surrounding the overhead cables sent 27,000 volts through her body.

The charge that hit the girl was so powerful that it caused her 17-year-old friend to be sent flying off the roof of the stationary train.

A passer-by, who saw the horrific accident, risked his own life by scrambling on top of the carriage to extinguish the girl's burning clothes. But despite his best efforts, the teenager later died at the hospital, with over 50 percent burns on her body.

Her friend, who is currently recovering in the hospital, told investigators that in their mission to get the 'ultimate selfie,' they did not think about the dangers.
