Irinjalakuda: 5211 dancers, a performance that lasted 17 minutes. The mega Thiruvathirakali performance has now found its place in the Guinness Book of World Records.
The 'Thiruvathirakali' performance at the Thanima cultural festival at Irinjalakuda, broke the existing record of 3640 people set a couple of years ago in Mumbai.
The citation read : “The largest Kaikottikkali dance was achieved by Thanima 2015 who were led by Jitha Benoy in Irinjalakuda (India) on February 2, 2015.”

The dancers have been practising for over weeks now. People had started gathering at the Christ College grounds where the event was held from early morning. The dancers arrived in small groups, assembled and then put on a power packed performance.

Famous movie star Kaviyoor Ponnamma inaugurated the event. District collector M S Jaya was there along with Thanima chairman Thomas Unniyadan. Guinness Adjudicator Fortuna Burke handed over the citation to the organisers of Thanima.
