Ajitha (inset) was selected as the best trainee from among 578 cadets, after undergoing rigorous training for 9 months.

Panangad: KT Ajitha stood strong and fearless when life threw curve balls at her as a young girl. As she received the chief minister's trophy for the best cadet of the first all-woman battalion of the Kerala police from Pinarayi Vijayan, Ajitha was no less proud.

Panangad Mundempally native Ajitha is the only daughter of Parameswaran and Rajamma, both of whom are no more. It was on 31st July at the passing out parade of the first woman's battalion that Ajitha won the prestigious trophy.

She was selected as the best trainee from among 578 cadets, after undergoing rigorous training for 9 months. Ajitha is also included in the 44-member women's commando force, a first in Kerala.

After losing her parents at childhood itself, Ajitha was taken care of by her beloved uncle Maheendran who works as loading labourer in Madavana.

The women in this batch are also trained in swimming and driving, besides acquiring special skills in effectively dealing with cybercrimes. The training sessions were carried out under the supervision of DIG Anoop Kuruvila John with instructions from ADGP Dr B Sandhya. The training was headed by assistant director PS Gopi, SP Reji Jacob, and police science assistant director KK Aji.

348 women in the battalion are aged between 25 and 30, while 100 are between 30 and 35 years of age. Those who are below 25 years would comprise up to 130.

The women commandos are trained in modern weaponry including AK-47. They are required to ready a gun in 45 seconds with blindfolds on. They are trained at night firing and rescuing a kidnapped person by storming a building.
