Another Bengaluru building tilts, to be razed
Preliminary probe has found that a weak foundation was laid for the building even though the land was marshy.

Bengaluru: A five-storey building that dangerously tilted here will be demolished. The building, located near Aswath Nagar Mariyamman Temple at Marathahalli, had suddenly tilted on Friday night and the 50 residents were evacuated by the Fire Force and the police. The pillars of the building had become weak and cracks appeared.

Work has commenced to demolish the structure, said Prakash, BBMP executive engineer. Residents of two nearby houses were also shifted. Preliminary probe has found that a weak foundation was laid for the building even though the land was marshy.

The owner of the building has been arrested. HAL police said that K Sivaprasad, 35, had obtained sanction for building a three-storey structure but he had added two more floors illegally.

This incident is the latest in several other similar cases reported in Bengaluru. On November 10, a labourer was killed when a building under construction collapsed at Thyagaraja Nagar. In August 2017, a five-storey newly constructed building at J J Church Road in Ejipura also had tilted to a side.
