Big Bro RSS to oversee poll duties for BJP in all Kerala constituencies

Pathanamthitta: The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sang (RSS) has taken control of BJP's election campaigning in all the 20 Lok Sabha seats in Kerala. It has named its leaders in charge of the state for all the 20 constituencies to coordinate all election works and draw up strategies for the upcoming general election.

Across the country, the campaigning for the BJP is headed by RSS leaders in all the 543 Lok Sabha seats.

The RSS had for the first time engaged in full-time election work in 2014 by positioning Narendra Modi as PM candidate under its Mission 272 plan. The BJP had fought in 427 seats then. Among these seats, the RSS oversaw campaigning in 400.

Similar to 2014, the national leadership of the RSS has exhorted its ground-level workers to set aside all other works to focus on election work and ensure BJP’s victory. For visiting households, the RSS will work directly and along with the BJP workers. For this purpose, the RSS will reschedule its daily shakha (branch) activities too.

During the one-hour shakha sessions that are held in the mornings and evenings, there is no need to hold all the activities. After squad work, they can get together at the shakha or wherever they can and recite the compulsory prayer song and disperse. Workers have been asked to continue the booth-level household visits until they can ensure favourable votes.

The RSS leaders who have been assigned the 20 constituencies are at present holding 'samanvaya baithaks' (consensus sessions) to coordinate the works of all Sangh Parivar entities. The household contact programme begins after this. The RSS aims to take the achievements of the Modi government to the people and at the same time ensure that no infighting takes place in the BJP during election campaigning.

The RSS will also aim to strengthen the solidarity among Hindus which was achieved during the agitation over the Sabarimal temple issue. The RSS will hold the key for choosing candidates too.

Kerala has the largest number of RSS branches in the country. The right-wing outfit doesn't want to lose the advantage of the prevailing favourable conditions to the bickerings in the BJP leadership in Kerala.

The sangh has also deployed more pracharaks (campaigners) to BJP's focus areas such as Thiruvananthapuram, Pathanamthitta, Thrissur, Palakkad and Kasaragod. There is special focus on the Thiruvananthapuram constituency ever since it came to attention of the national RSS leadership.
