New Delhi: After suffering a colossal defeat in the Lok Sabha elections, the Congress is determined to set things right at the state level. Despite having won the mandate to rule the states of Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh just a few months ago, India's grand old party failed to replicate its success in the Lok Sabha Elections.

In Rajasthan, the BJP secured all the 25 seats and ended up with a vote share 20 per cent higher than the assembly elections. It is only natural that the Congress is mulling changing the chief minister here. The PCC president and young leader Sachin Pilot might replace Ashok Gehlot, say party sources in the state.

In Madhya Pradesh, the Congress managed to win only one out of the 29 seats despite winning the state elections last November. This reversal in votes suggest that Jyotiraditya Scindia might soon replace Kamal Nath in Madhya Pradesh as the Chief Minister. But Scindia’s loss from an easy seat might dent his chances for the same.

Both Pilot and Scindia had claimed chief ministership after Congress won both states last December. Rahul Gandhi finally decided to give senior leaders Gehlot and Kamal Nath a chance after much deliberation within the party.

He had then warned of a change if Lok Sabha performances were not up to the mark. There could be more pressure for change of guard in these states in the days ahead.
