Coimbatore: A Tamil youth was killed here on Wednesday, in what is expected to be another case of honour killing.

Mettupayalam native K Kanakaraj (22) was hacked to death by his elder brother K Vinod Kumar (24) for marrying a Dalit girl. Kanakaraj worked as a labourer here.

The girl and Kanakaraj had been in love. On learning about their affair, Vinod Kumar asked his brother to end the relationship with the girl. Following his elder brother's opposition, Kanakaraj's sought his father Karuppusami's help.

Karuppusami agreed to their marriage and asked Kanakaraj to stay in a different house with his wife for some time. On Wednesday, Vinod Kumar reached the house where the couple lived and hacked his bother on the head. The girl also suffered injuries.

Kanakaraj, who received serious injuries on his head died on the spot. The girl was taken to Mettupalayam government hospital and then to Coimbatore medical college hospital for further treatment.

Vinod Kumar fled the spot, but later surrendered at Mettupalayam police station.
