Kochi: Hanan Hamid, the Kochi college girl who shot to fame after her fish-selling videos went viral on social media, was at the receiving end of Sangh Parivar ire on Sunday.
A fake Facebook profile in the name of Hanan posted messages criticizing and mocking Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Some Sangh Pariwar workers, without verifying the veracity of the profile, started a hate campaign, calling Hanan 'thankless.'

Hanan told Onmanorama that she did not have an active Facebook account and the anti-Modi posts came from a fake profile which carried her name and photograph. “I don't have an active Facebook account. The only FB profile I have is the one I maintained before I became popular. I stayed away from Facebook to avoid unwanted controversies. I am scared of the Sangh Pariwar now and they are taking up a hate campaign against me. I will soon register a complaint with the Kochi police,” Hanan said.
Hanan's tryst with hate campaigns
Hanan's fish-selling video had gone viral on social media a couple of months ago. After being projected as an icon of endurance overnight, Hanan was scathed in a cyber-defamation campaign the very next day. Nooruddeen Sheikh, a Wayanad-based vlogger, kick-started a campaign against the 19-year-old alleging that she was staging a publicity stunt for the promotion of her upcoming movie. Chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan had then ordered a quick probe and over 25 people were arrested for spreading false news.
Incidentally, Hanan met with an accident on Monday as she was on her way to the Ernakulam south police station to register a complaint against the hate campaign. Hanan suffered a spinal compression and a surgery would be performed on her. Hanan was going to the station after attending a function in Kodungalloor.
