Mavelikkara: A bride has donated her ring to the Chief Minister’s Distress Relief Fund (CMDRF) at the wedding venue itself.

Sona Soman, a resident of Umbarnad at Kallumala, handed over her ring to Mavelikkara MLA R Rajesh, who had reached the wedding venue to wish the newlyweds. The wedding between Sona and Baiju, a resident of Karumadi in Ambalapuzha, took place on Thursday.

Baiju is a civil police officer attached to the district police chief’s office in Kottayam. He is the son of the late Balan and Vijayamma. Sona is the daughter of V K Soman, a retired BSNL official, and Pankajakshy. She is awaiting her posting as health inspector after securing a spot in the rank list of Kerala Public Service Commission.

When she saw the MLA arriving at the wedding venue, Sona took an instant decision to donate her ring. With the permission of Baiju, she handed over the wedding ring to the MLA for donation to the CMDRF.

Sona’s house was not affected during the floods, but some relatives belonging to severely inundated places had stayed there for several days during the calamity.
