Rahul Easwar fails to turn up at police station, court revokes bail

Pathanamthitta: A court here has revoked the bail granted to Rahul Easwar, president of Ayyappa Dharma Sena. The court has ordered the police to arrest him.

Rahul, who was arrested for protesting at Pamba on October 17 when the Sabarimala temple opened for the first time after the Supreme Court allowed women of all age groups to enter the shrine, was later granted bail.

As per the bail conditions, Rahul had to report at the police station every Saturday. However, he did not appear on December 8 (last Saturday).

He was asked to report at Pamba police station. However, after he was stopped at Nilakkal by the cops, he began to report at Pathanamthitta police station. But he failed to turn up at any of the police stations last Saturday.

When Sabarimala temple had opened on October 17, Rahul had said that the believers would stage a peaceful protest to stop women from entering the temple premises. However, the protest later turned violent. Protesters also blocked and attacked journalists covering the incident. A non-bailable FIR was was registered against him, but he was granted bail later.

Rahul was also arrested on October 28 for his alleged provocative statement related to the entry of women into Sabarimala, but was released on bail by a court.

The areas near the temple had witnessed high drama then with around a dozen women in 10-50 age group being prevented from entering it by  devotees who are opposed to the apex court verdict.

On September 28, a five-judge Constitution bench of the apex court had lifted the ban on the entry of women of child-bearing age into the shrine.

Court rejects anticipatory bail for Kollam Thulasi

Meanwhile, a court has rejected an anticipatory bail plea submitted by actor Kollam Thulasi, who courted controversy for allegedly making derogatory comments against women.

The actor-turned-politician, while addressing a gathering in Kollam in October, suggested that women coming to the Sabarimala temple should be ripped into two. He later apologised, a case was registered against him.
