Kannur: Amid the ongoing incidents of violence in Kerala over the Sabarimala issue, the house of CPI(M) MLA A N Shamseer was attacked here Friday night.

A country-made bomb was hurled at the house at Madappeedika near Thalassery by unidentified people.

Shamseer alleged that RSS activists were behind the attack and top leaders of the Hindutva outfit were part of the conspiracy.

Nobody was injured in the attack, but a water tank and some flower pots were damaged.

Shamseer, who represents Thalassery assembly constituency, was not at home when the incident took place. He said he was attending a peace meet involving leaders of CPI(M) and RSS when the incident happened.

A series of attacks on the houses of the leaders of CPI(M) and RSS have been reported from Thalassery area in the past two days. A large posse of police has been camping in the area.

Kerala has been witnessing sporadic incidents of violence after two women, in their forties, entered the Lord Ayyappa Temple at Sabarimala on Wednesday. The women entered the temple based on a Supreme Court order that lifted the ban on the entry of women of 10-50 age group to the temple. The ruling CPI(M) is adamant to implement the verdict whereas the opposition Congress and RSS/BJP have opposed it, citing the need to protect traditions and customs of the temple.
