Lost and found: Man suspected to be abducted by gold mafia is in Oman

Gold mafia abducts Dubai Police employee
Musaffar Ahmed of Pathiyerikandi Parambil from Arakkinar.

Kozhikode: Gold mafia may not be behind the disappearance of the Malayali working for Dubai Police. Musafar Ahmed, native of Arakkinar, Kozhikode, is in Oman, investigating team head Marad SI K Sebastian said.

Musafar went missing on 24 April. After informing his family that he was heading home from Karippur Airport, his phone was switched off. The family registered a missing man complaint on 2 May.

Probe team had clues pointing to a possible abduction of Musafar by gold mafia. He had returned to Dubai after a visit last December. Agencies discovered that Musaffar acted as a courier for gold smugglers during his December visit. But he did not hand over the gold. Though a possibility of vendetta was suspected initially, the team deduced that a gold smuggling gang would not have waited for five months to get back at him.

Police have collected documents showing Musafar travelled to Muscat from Bengaluru airport. His presence in Oman was also confirmed by a phone call.
