Puthoor: Curtains were drawn up and excitement filled the air as children walked on to the stage to attempt something new: staging a play without a script. The lights come up and the little actors took the stage by storm with no ready made dialogues or ample rehearsals. The experiment, however, went down well with a jam-packed audience who gave a thunderous applause for the rocking performance.
The children staged the play 'Mazha Nanayatha Penkutti' (A girl who was not drenched in the rain) on the occasion of the anniversary of A P Ramakrishana Public Library, Attuvassery. The play saw 14 children from Class 2 to Class 9 donning various roles.
There were no written dialogues for the play that portrayed how natural calamities such as flood could erase all the social barriers and brought together mankind. The whole idea of the play was first transferred into the minds of children who were then asked to come up with their own dialogues as per the situation, said director N Shaiju.
Only cosmetic changes and additions were made and the child artists were told to present the play in the most natural way. The audience from their part also enjoyed the performance to the fullest. The drama wing of the library 'Rangakala' was launched on the occasion.
