Thiruvananthapuram: The Crime Branch team probing the death of violinist Balabhaskar has sought more test results from the forensic department to ascertain who was driving the car on the fateful day.

The team has given a written request to the forensic department of the medical college, seeking the results of hair, fingerprint, and blood tests at the earliest.

The forensic team had earlier submitted a report stating that Balabhaskar's car driver Arjun was at the wheel after checking the nature of the injuries. If the probe officers were able to get the test results of hair, fingerprints and blood from the driving seat, this can be proved scientifically. Arjun's hair, fingerprints and blood samples have already been handed over to the forensic department.

Several people, including Balabhaskar's wife Lakshmi, had given statement that Arjun was driving the car. However, Arjun told the probe officers that Balabhaskar was at the wheel.

Violinist Balabhaskar’s car had met with the accident at Pallipuram in Thiruvananthapuram on September 25, 2018. Balabhaskar’s toddler daughter was killed on the spot, while the violinist died later at the hospital. His wife Lakshmi and driver Arjun had escaped with injuries.

The Crime Branch has begun to collect the mobile phone numbers of those who rushed to the accident site at Pallipuram, other witnesses and those who gave statements. The team would check if these people were present in Pallipuram area based on their mobile tower location. Their phone call records will also be checked.

The other day it was reported that Balabhaskar’s car had Rs 2 lakh in cash and 44 sovereign gold.

The probe was handed over to the Crime Branch based on a complaint filed by the musician’s father Unni. Unni had claimed that Balabhaskar’s death raised several suspicions.
