Kozhikode: Krishnapriya, younger sister of one of the victims of the twin murder at Periya in Kasaragod - Kripesh, has joined a college here for a bachelor's degree course. Kerala Students Union (KSU), the student wing of the Congress party, will meet all the expenses including education and accommodation of the girl. Kozhikode DCC president T Siddique, who is the local guardian of Krishnapriya at Devagiri College, said that her classes will begin next Monday.
“She opted for business administration and it was the dream of her brother as well as the family that Krishnapriya get good education from a reputed institution. After knowing about her interests, the KSU leaders came forward and together we chose Devagiri College. KSU state committee will bear all the expenses related to her education. I have enrolled her at the college yesterday (on Monday) for bachelor of business administration (BBA),” Siddique said.
KSU state president K M Abhijith and other leaders had accompanied Krishpriya to the college. Siddique added that her hostel accommodation facilities will be ready this week itself, before she shifts from Periya.
In April, a new house was constructed for the family of slain Youth Congress leader under Thanal project of then MLA Hibi Eden. Friends and party workers helped construct the house in less than two months after Kripesh and his close friend and another Youth Congress worker Sharathlal were hacked to death by local CPM workers.
The twin murders rocked the political scene of the state for months and reflected on the Lok Sabha election results of the northern districts. CPM strongman K P Satheesh Chandran was defeated by Congress leader Rajmohan Unnithan in Kasaragod constituency after the UDF used violence politics as a main campaign topic.
