Thiruvananthapuram: Sivaranjith, the accused in University College stabbing case, and friends secured the university answer sheets when some teachers tried to smuggle certain items out of college premises.

Several things were being smuggled out of the college campus in a vehicle. Students stopped it to check the contents and took possession of a table which contained the answer sheets, the Students' Federation of India (SFI) leaders told the police in a statement. Some students even blackmailed a certain teacher with the contents they found, they said. The police have interrogated the teachers in this matter.

Some rented items were brought into the college ahead of a NAAC team visit. The National Assessment and Accreditation Council is an organisation that assesses and accredits higher education Institutions in India.

When these items were taken out later, students stopped it and claimed the table was college property. A Left-leaning professor was in charge of renting the items.

Some answer sheets with university seals, vouchers and other documents were recovered from the table. The vehicle was allowed to leave once students took possession of these. They however, refused to return the items to teachers.

They eventually ‘bargained’ over the items and returned a few items. However, they kept some of the answer sheets, the police informed.

Accused 17 in the stabbing case, PP Pranav, will be made a co-accused in the answer sheet case too. The Cantonment Police have already questioned the teachers who acted as the interim principal at the time, the coordinator of the NAAC event and others with respect to this development.

The SFI leaders Sivaranjith, Pranav and Naseem, are among the accused for stabbing of a student on the college campus here last month.

The investigation which followed revealed that these SFI leaders who aced the Kerala Public Service Commission exam had secured their respective ranks through fraud.

All three have found a place in the PSC rank list by misusing the watch, which works with a SIM card, said officials. The watch has scanning facility, which the accused might have utilised to send the question paper to somebody outside the exam hall as an image, they added. The accomplices are likely to have sent the answers to the watches as messages, the officials believe.
