Kochi cops give helmets for free as part of safety campaign

Kochi: In a bid to spread awareness about road safety, the police provided free helmets to two-wheeler riders from limited background. Helmets were given for free from three spots in the city on Friday as part of ‘Crown For Safety’ project, organised by the police along with the TCL Electronics.

Mayor Soumini Jain inaugurated the project at Edappally on Friday morning. Then Kochi City Police Commissioner Vijay Sakhre flagged off a rally of Harley Davidson bikes. Film stars Unni Mukundan and Prachi Tehlan added glamour to the event. The traffic awareness programmes were also held at Marine Drive and Thoppumpady. At all three spots, helmets and t-shirts were given for free.

Magic show, street play, and vehicle rally were also held.

The city police commissioner said that the project was part of an effort to change the hostile attitude of some travellers after helmets were made mandatory.

Q3 Ventures managing director Jubin Peter said that the TCL became a part of the project to encourage the use of helmets in Ernakulam, which has the most number of two-wheelers in the state.
