Periya, Kasaragod: The Mahatma Buds School, that lit the hopes of a new life for children affected by the endosulfan tragedy in the Kasaragod district, has completed four years.
Malayala Manorama’s Nallapaadam project, along with the state government and local bodies, set up the school, under the Nabard-RIDF package.
Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan had dedicated the school to the endosulfan child victims on November 4, 2016.
The school had been functioning at the community hall in the Periya block panchayat from March 22, 2011, with very few students. However, after it shifted to a completely different ambience, the number of children also increased.
Around 85 differently-abled children were attending the school before the COVID-19 pandemic struck. The classrooms and related facilities were set up under the guidance of architect G Shankar. This is the first such school in Kerala to have facilities of international standards.
Twenty staff, including six teachers, four maids, and three therapists, offered their services at the school.
