Kumily: A ministerial delegation from Tamil Nadu comprising Tamil Nadu Water Resources Minister Durai Murugan, Finance Minister Palanivel Thyagarajan, Cooperation Minister I Periyasamy and Commercial Taxes Minister P Moorthy has reached the Mullaperiyar Dam site on Friday.
The legislators and top officials from the Theni district has also accompanied them.
The visit of Tamil Nadu ministers assumes significance in light of the rise in the water level in the dam.
Eight shutters of the dam currently remain raised to negate the high inflow of water to the dam after its catchment areas received good rain.
The water level in the dam has started receding after the opening of a few of its 13 shutters.
Earlier, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan had written to his Tamil Nadu counterpart MK Stalin expressing concerns regarding the water level at Mullaperiyar dam.
Vijayan had requested Stalin to ensure the gradual release of water from the dam through the tunnel to Tamil Nadu so as to avert another 2018-like calamity in Kerala.
He had pressed for a timely intervention from the Tamil Nadu government so as to avoid a hasty raising of the dam's shutters, which he said, would not allow enough time to take precautionary measures to safeguard the people living downstream of the dam.
Kerala had also sent a letter to the central government urging its intervention on the matter.
