Alappuzha: An all-party meeting will be held at the Alappuzha District Collectorate Conference Hall on Tuesday at 4 pm to discuss ways to ensure peaceful atmosphere in the district in the backdrop of double murder of two political functionaries – Ranjeet Sreenivas, the state secretary of the BJP’s Other Backward Classes outfit, OBC Morcha, and K S Shan, a state secretary of the Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI).

Cultural Affairs Minister Saji Cheriyan, Agriculture Minister P Prasad, Members of Parliament, Members of Legislative Assembly and various political party leaders would attend the meeting convened by the District Collector.

Earlier, the meeting was scheduled for Monday. However, BJP leaders expressed their inability to attend the meeting since they were busy with the cremation of Ranjeet.

Meanwhile, the prohibitory orders clamped in the district has been extended till Wednesday 6 am.

Some activists of the BJP and SDPI, who were taken into preventive custody earlier to avoid untoward incidents after the murders, were let off by the police.

The Intelligence wing of the Kerala Police Department had warned the State Government many times in the last three months about an explosive situation in some strongholds of various organisations where political rivalry has assumed a communal tone. The Intelligence reports had said that there were high chances of tension between the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) – BJP's ideological patron – and the SDPI in a few Kerala districts including Alappuzha.

Ranjith was killed on Sunday morning inside his house. Shan was murdered a few hours earlier on Saturday evening.
