Alappuzha: The Alappuzha police took into custody four suspects in connection with the murder of Ranjeet Sreenivas who was the state secretary of BJP’s Other Backward Classes outfit, OBC Morcha.

The police also seized the bike which they used before and after the crime. Blood stains were reportedly found on the bike.

The BJP leaders had earlier alleged that there was police laxity in nabbing the culprits in the case.

ADGP Vijay Zakhare said that 12 members were suspected to be involved in the gruesome killing of Ranjeet inside his house on Sunday morning.

Zakhare also informed the media that the police would probe whether the murder of Ranjeet and K S Shan, a state secretary of the Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI), were linked anyway to the murder of RSS worker Nandu Krishna, hailing from Vayalar, sometime back.

Shan was killed on Saturday evening.

As per the primary assessment of the post-mortem report, Renjith died due to the serious wounds he suffered on his head, throat and chest in the aftermath of an attack carried out with lethal weapons by a group of assailants.

Two arrests were made on Tuesday in connection with Shan's murder. The police said the preliminary investigation revealed that there were 10 accused in the killing of Shan. Police are also probing if there was any larger conspiracy behind the SDPI leader's murder.

An all-party peace meeting will be held in the Alappuzha Collectorate on Tuesday at 4 pm.
