Anchal: A man who murdered his estranged wife at his in-laws house at Vilakkupara near here in Kollam district was caught and handed over to police by local residents.

Samkumar, 40, was caught from the crime spot as soon as the murder of his wife Sunitha, 37, was committed on Wednesday evening.

After he arrived at his wife's home, Samkumar bolted the door from inside before hacking Sunitha several times. He was intoxicated at the time of the attack.

Hearing Sunitha's cries neighbours rushed in and broke open the door, only to find her lying dead in a pool of blood.

Samkumar was overpowered by neighbours. The Eroor police station was soon alerted about the murder.

Sunitha was the daughter of Sudhara Rajan Pillai and Gomathiyamma.

Samkumar was arrested five months ago after Sunitha complained to the Childline that her husband was constantly harassing their children. He spent a while in the jail then.

Subsequently, Sunitha’s parents took the responsibility of their daughter and grandchildren. Sunitha and her children shifted to her parent's house at Vilakkupara in Punalur Taluk.

Sunitha was a close relative too of Samkumar.
