In yet another embarrassment to the Kerala Police, it has been found that a sub-inspector lodged a fake complaint under POCSO Act using his minor daughter against a merchant at Perumba in Payyannur of Kannur district. The case was found to be fabricated in a probe by a crime branch DySP.
Police had on September 20 filed a case invoking sections of the POCSO Act against the merchant, S Shameem, saying he had tried to abuse the sub-inspector's daughter. The case was handed over to the crime branch after the merchant, Chamber of Commerce at Payyanur, and other merchants' organisations protested the police action, saying he had been falsely implicated.
Shameem had earlier asked the sub-inspector to move his car parked in front of his tyre shop. The officer picked up an argument with Shameem, and the next day, visited the shop in uniform and threatened to file a case for violating COVID-19 protocol.
After the merchant lodged a complaint against the sub-inspector, he was transferred. The crime branch probe found that the sub-inspector used his daughter to file a POCSO case to exact revenge.
