4 fishermen killed in Chavara road accident

Kollam: Four fishermen were killed in a road accident at Chavara here when an insulated van rammed the minibus they were travelling, at Chavara, early on Tuesday.

Two were admitted to the Thiruvananthapuram Medical College Hospital in a critical condition. 

The remaining 27, who sustained injuries, have been admitted to the Karunagapally Taluk Hospital.

Police identified the deceased as Karunambaran, 56, of Pulluvila Kochupally in Thiruvananthapuram, Burkuman, 45, also of Pulluvila, Biju, 38, of Tamil Nadu, and Justin, 56, of Vizhinjam.

The minibus, which was transporting fishermen from Tamil Nadu to Beypore in Kozhikode, collided with a van heading for Kollam at around 1 am on Tuesday. After hitting the bus, the van overturned.

Local residents, police and fire and rescue services personnel shifted the injured to the hospital.
