Kochi: The High Court of Kerala Tuesday rejected bail to the husband of LLB student Mofia Parvin who committed suicide in November alleging domestic violence over dowry.
While Muhammad Suhail's bail petition was rejected, his parents were granted bail by Justice P Gopinath.
The court stated that the allegations against Suhail were serious and "if proved, would indicate that the deceased had been treated with utmost cruelty".
Earlier, the court had observed that it would not be swayed by media trials and public sentiments.
Mofia had left a death note addressed to her father in which she had blamed Suhail and his parents and had asked to ensure "maximum punishment" for them.
The 23-year-old woman had met Kothamangalam-native Suhail over Facebook and got married in April. She had later filed a complaint of dowry harassment with the Aluva East police.
It was alleged that police inspector Sudheer had misbehaved with her father in front of Suhail and his relatives. It was upset by this incident that Mofia committed suicide upon returning home.
