Ambalapuzha: A youth from Ambalapuzha in Alappuzha district alleged that the police fell him down with a baton, while he was riding a bike on New Year's Eve. He also claimed he was manhandled at the police station.

The injured Amal Babu, 29, who is a fisherman by profession, had to be admitted to the Alappuzha Medical College Hospital.

In a complaint given to Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, Amal alleged that a cop threw lathi at him while he was riding past them just because he didn't stop his vehicle when the police asked him to do so.

He further alleged that he was later taken to the police station and was beaten up.

But the police claimed that they did not beat Amal.

He fell from the bike after he lost control of the bike due to overspeed. Amal was taken to the police station and later freed on bail, the police stated.

Babu is a resident of Neerkunnam locality in Ambalapuzha.
