Two injured as car driven by drunk ASI rams bikes in Thrissur

Thrissur: Two people were injured after a car, driven by an off-duty cop, rammed their bike at Kannara in Thrissur district on Monday night.

The car sped away after the accident, but broke down a little distance away where it was spotted by people who chased it soon after the hit-and-run.

Assistant Sub-Inspector Prashanth of the Malappuram Armed Reserve Camp and his friends have been nabbed over the incident.  A case has been filed against them for causing accident by driving under the influence of alcohol.

The accident happened when ASI Prashanth and his friends were returning to Thrissur after taking part in a birthday celebration at a house at Kannara.

Despite hitting the bike, the driver did not stop the car.

The bike riders, who fell down, have suffered serious injuries to their legs. The car, which was also damaged in the accident, broke down at Pattikkad, about 1 km, from the accident site.

The local people, who had followed the car after the accident, stopped them and informed the police.
