Minister Riyas vows to eliminate level crossings, reveals plans to revive tourism

Thodupuzha: Minister for Public Works and Tourism P A Mohammed Riyas came in for criticism at CPM's Idukki district conference on Tuesday.

Ridiculing Riyas as "Malabar minister," delegates complained that tourism and road projects were being awarded only to the Malabar region.

The two-day conference will elect the new district secretary and committee members on Wednesday. District secretariat member C V Varghese or district panchayat member V N Mohanan is likely to replace KK Jayachandran, who has cited health reasons to step aside, as the district secretary.

The district secretariat will have two new members, including a woman. More youngsters and women will be inducted into the district committee. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will inaugurate the closing ceremony at 3 pm.
